WhatsApp clock-in
No app to install. No password. No tablet at the door. Each employee sends “entrada” to the Mesero number and the system records the shift, compliant with Spain's RD 8/2019. Breaks, exit, status, daily and weekly totals — all in the same chat. Works alongside the Mesero Fichar mobile app.

⏭️ Clock in📊 My status📋 MenuConventional clock-in apps struggle with adoption: another app to install, another password to remember, opening it each shift. Hospitality has high turnover and mixed teams, and that friction kills compliance. WhatsApp is the one thing everyone uses without training.
No app to download. No password to remember. No pending update. The employee opens WhatsApp like any other day.
Their iPhone, their old Android or a phone without the Play Store: for everyone it is the same, a message to Mesero.
You generate a code per person and send it; one message links them. No training, and nobody has to install anything.
Only the first message requires a code. After that, Mesero recognises the employee by phone number and replies at once.
In Employees, on the person's record: a 6-digit code valid for 24 hours, and a link that opens WhatsApp with the message already written.
They send “vincular” and the code to the Mesero number. The reply carries their full name, and the phone is saved on their record.
“entrada” on arrival, “pausa” before lunch, “vuelta” on return, “salida” on leaving, or a tap on the buttons in each reply. Every clock-in lands on the time record with its time and source.
The chat's menu, with the options of someone clocked in. Example.
The employee types the word or picks the option in the menu. The numbers follow the menu of the moment: once clocked in, 2 is clocking out.
The same chat does much more than clocking in: Mesero on WhatsApp
An employee can clock in on WhatsApp and out in the app, or the other way round: it is the same shift. When anyone clocks in or out, the database locks that person's open shift, so there are never two open.
| If this happens | What Mesero does |
|---|---|
| In on the app, out on WhatsApp | Closes the same shift, no duplicate |
| Clocking in twice in a row | “You are already clocked in”, no duplicate |
| Two clock-ins at once from two places | The open shift is locked: there are never two |
| Who is clocking in? | A PIN on the tablet and the QR; on WhatsApp, the linked phone |
| Where did they clock in from? | Every clock-in keeps its source: app, WhatsApp, QR or web |
| The Inspectorate arrives | One record, however each person clocks in |
WhatsApp clock-in isn't a cut-down version: it is the same record as the app, through the chat.
Every reply carries up to three buttons (Clock in, Clock out, My status, Menu). One tap instead of typing, as in an app.
WhatsApp clock-ins are not location-checked: they are marked “no location”. To check that staff clock in at the restaurant, switch the check on for the app and the web clock.
If someone forgets to clock out, a WhatsApp reminder reaches them the next morning, on a Meta-approved template.
Replies come in Spanish or in English, for a mixed team.
The linked phone is the identity: only whoever has that WhatsApp can clock in as that employee. When someone leaves, the manager unlinks them with one click.
Every WhatsApp clock-in stores the time, its source and the number it came from. The Inspectorate sees when and how each hour was recorded.
Messages go through Mesero's number, on Meta's official WhatsApp Business API, and they are included in the plan. Nothing to sign up for, no number of your own.
Activate Mesero, add your employees, generate the linking codes and send them. Tomorrow morning you have the first complete shift record — without anyone installing an app.
